The Ex Factor

Posted by frances lombard on Saturday, September 17, 2011

What is it about ex’s that mean we immediately hand over all our power the moment they walk through the door. In spite of the fact that we have moved on, moved up, and are in better places, the presence of an ex somehow results in a crash right down to earth.

This year has been interesting with a few failed hook ups and crazy nights out that leave facebook abuzz with a rapid fire of tagging and untagging, but what has really been a prominent presence is the ex. Personally I have two ex’...

When is the right time?

Posted by frances lombard on Saturday, September 17, 2011

How long is appropriate to wait before texting someone you met in a night out on the town? Is this a bit like how long is a piece of string? This question became critical after a friend’s birthday party on the weekend and I am not sure that I have the correct answer.

Does it differ from person to person – does one wait 3 days before breaking the silence? I thought I would make it super simple, I thought let me give her my number, that way she can sit in the death like angst thinking, ov...

Life in Colour

Posted by frances lombard on Monday, December 27, 2010

Life in colour:
(In this adventure please try this test: )

So colour is a new found fascination of mine, mainly because I wear black as a habit ….and not like a nun, though given my 6 month of singleness after a relationship in which I saw no end ….perhaps a nun is not to far off my current state.

So colour is meant to signify several things to several people in several lands and in the 8th son of the 8th son somehow magic appears and it is all very confusing. I suppose one of the bigges...

Phobia

Posted by frances on Monday, May 11, 2009

ImageIt is difficult to really go through the past week of my life with any clarity, or indeed even the past two and a bit months. Life not being a bachelor is dramatically different than I remember it being.

For one I started seeing random colours the other day – it was bazaar, I was with my plus one and suddenly purple then orange then green just danced out of nowhere, I have been assured that these particular colours in this particular order is very good. I am not entire...

Les go camp...

Posted by frances on Friday, April 17, 2009
ImageSo in keeping with my determined attitude towards dykism I attended the Cape Town Lesbians camp last weekend. If you are a Capetonian and Lesbian, and did not know about this then, um, well meet my friend facebook, with added lesbian groups such as “I love poetry”, “braai society” and “I love my trucker hat and chequered shirt”* (these may or may not exist, but if they do I bet they’re lesbian)

So at the beginning of the year, the Cape Town Lesbian group announced that i...

My Destiny,

Posted by frances on Friday, April 17, 2009
ImageThis is my destiny.
My life - my war.
Me against me against you, against it all.
This is all that it will ever be.
So far from anything which I dream, so far from anything which I wish it to be.

There is a me within myself, the one who tries, tries and tries trying to be everything but what I am.
Somebody I hope: I prey to be.
To be everything that is inside of me. And then on days like today, in weeks likes this, on a year like any other I am struck with reality freedom of thought directs ...

Finding Emo

Posted by frances on Thursday, March 26, 2009
ImageRevisiting a concept of going out and jolling I again found myself at a rock concert this weekend, luckily this time I was armed with one times girlfriend, check, one times best friend, check, and one times pet emo – DOUBLE CHECK!

Double check is because I have it on good authority that this particular emo, whilst sporting the super cool hair in eyes flick, did not actually know what emo meant a short while ago. Eventually after being asked for about the thousandth time by varying p...

Together we can do more

Posted by frances on Monday, March 16, 2009

Seriously as I drive through the traffic to work in the morning this slogan has me wondering, does anyone with more than half brain cell not question why there is no full stop in it?

Open ended sentences like that are dangerous, especially for a flailing party scrambling to stay in power. Realistically none of the posters do much to swing my vote one way or the other “stem te wen” seems rather weak, and the troll like image of Patricia “please don’t be a stripper” makes me drive with...

Why Cry over shattered glass

Posted by frances on Monday, March 16, 2009

So this week came round and kicked me in the ASS with a capital A, S and second S, in fact even spelt like that still puts it somewhat mildly. I'm emo – I’m meant to emo, being sad and walking into things is what I do best.

Lately though things have been going well – really well, and intelligent people would have stopped and said things are going toooo well, good thing I’ve never claimed intelligence else I would be eating the words as I type.

So as things were swimming along …. So di...

Why I missed cape town pride...

Posted by frances on Monday, March 16, 2009

So it’s interesting that everyone I know and mildly like managed to go to Pride this weekend, pole dancing, parade marching, lube licking, Cape Town Pride. And me? Where would this aspiring queer writer be? That’s right folks – in the office.

Several months ago I was going about my business, feeling stressed by the pressure of juggling a thousand and TWO tasks and I got an email, for a course. I kept going back to said email, and then decided at the very least I can go about claiming bac...
